Economy was defined by her as "limited resources to fulfill our unlimited wants". Makes sense. I mean, think about it. When does the word "Economy" really matter to you in real life? It starts being beneficial to me whenever Im looking at commercial packages, say buying flight tickes, or meal sets. I'd always go for the economical ones simply because they're within my means aka cheaper. It may not be a "dream come true", but with what I have, its an 'enough' offer to go with.
I did a bit of reading when I got home, and discovered the contrary. What she said was not portrayed as the definition of economy in the first many articles that I read. It was, instead, labelled as one fundamental economic PROBLEM. How do we satisfy our unlimited wants with limited resources?
This so called 'Fundamental-Economic-Problem', when you really look at it, don't it feel like its really hitting close to home? Ain't it like our everyday problem as well? Think about it. Everyday, we want things. Many things. Unlimited things. I want to travel the world, I wanna own a super bike I wanna make a huge donation, I want this and that. The list goes on and on and on, and would only lead to the frustration of realising that we can't have them coz we don't have what it needs to have them. We are made to see that we have limited resources by heightening what we do not have. In this case, money. And here's where the 'If only'-s would arise. If only I have more money, If only I'm rich, If only I have everything in this whole wide world hahaha. Indeed a blissful journey of thoughts to go thru, huh? :P
But really, are we of limited resources? I believe we are not. As a matter of fact, we are abundant with resources. I know this really well because my provider, Allah has provided me with abundant of resources. Allah has provided us with abundant of resources. If you're asking for signs and proof, I say you're one ignorant fool. Look around. Don't we already have it all? Had He not given us access to everything that we possibly want?
You want to travel and see the world? He has granted us the knowledge to allow that to happen. He made this world to work in such a way that cars, boats, planes, online bookings are possible. He has granted us many ways to earn in order to make our dreams real. And the biggest miracle you can imagine in this particular situation, He has made THE DESTINATION to travel to. MasyaAllah. What else can we possibly ask for?
You want a big mansion to live in, with a pool and an elevator. Can it be yours? Yes. Allah has provided us ways to have them. Allah has provided us the knowledge to create them. And with His will, these things are allowed to exist in this world. MasyaAllah, has He not lay everything out for us already?
What Im trying to say here is that 'Limited Resources' is never the problem. The problem is us. Us
1. Not understanding what we want
2. Not realising what we have
3. Not Utilising what we have to the fullest
These unlimited wants that we have, why do we want them? Simply because we think these things would make us happy. But if u were to analyze them deeper, would the things that you want really make you happy? Spring clean your wants by this rule, and trust me, ull be left with a tenth of what you had to start with.
People today tend to associate richness with money. A materialistic world we live in now, they'd always say. Oh and how we craaaaveee to be rich, dont we? But what we do not realise is that we are already rich. All of us. Think about it, what would be the most valuable asset that you have in your life? Is it your superbike? Your mansion? Your iphones? Your money? No. Your most valuable asset in your life, IS you life. And its yours! Stop being blinded by the things that you do not have, and realise what is in your hands. Realise that what you have is already a strong foundation. It is already everything that you need. All thats left to do is to put effort, and without you knowing it, you'll have a skyscraper Allah has given this opportunity for you. You grab it.
And my point above brings us to no. 3. Utilising what we have. Considering life is the most valuable thing that you have, then use it to the fullest. Use your life to create a distict mark that only you can do. A mark that when others look at it, they'll know it was you and they appreciate having it there. Use your life to create an impact that would benefit the whole world. Not because you have to, not because you must. But simply because you can. Simply because, thats what it really means to live a rich life.
So the whole Fundamental-Economic-Problem is merely a perspective Its more of a fundamental-humane-problem really, that can be solved by better thinking. They say, you should want within your means. I couldn't agree more coz, now that you realise your means are unlimited, whatever you want, is and will always be possible to achieve. It just takes a bit of ourselves to make it happen, simply because we can.
Very inspiring Yasmin :) It hits on my head!
